The Assumption Feast Day: A Celebration of Faith, Joy and Thanksgiving in the East Africa Province 💬 0 👁 52

On Saturday, 15 August 2026, on the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Oblate Sisters of the Assumption of the East Africa Province celebrated a great feast of faith, joy and thanksgiving. The celebration was marked by several significant events in the different countries that make up the Province: Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya.

In Tanzania, the feast was particularly marked by the perpetual profession of eight Sisters, who definitively consecrated their lives to the Lord as Oblates of the Assumption. It was also an occasion to give thanks for the twenty-five years of religious consecration of Sister Régine Tasiviwe, who celebrated her Silver Jubilee. We give thanks to the Lord for her journey of fidelity, her witness, and the many years she has devoted to the service of God and the Congregation.

In Rwanda, on the same day, three other Sisters, Liberatha, Claudine and Seraphine, also celebrated their perpetual Vows in the Congregation.

In preparation for the feast of the Assumption, the Province had also celebrated the first profession of Sister Pelagie, originally from Rwanda. In addition, eleven novices and four postulants began their formation in religious life. Furthermore, sixteen Young professed Sisters from different communities of the Province renewed their vows in the Congregation. Their commitment is a source of great joy and hope for the entire Province.

Through all these celebrations, we give thanks to the Lord for the vitality of religious life in the Congregation and for the sisters who are journeying through the different stages of consecrated life. These events also invite us to look to the future with confidence and to continue our missionary commitment despite the challenges of our time.

We continue to pray to Our Lady of the Assumption for good vocations, so that many young women may generously respond to the call of Christ, and we pray that those who are already committed to the service of the Church may receive the grace to persevere in fidelity, joy, self-giving and a deep sense of belonging.

May Mary, Our Lady of the Assumption, accompany our Province and the entire Congregation.
