Mother Marie Correnson played a significant role in shaping the spirituality of the Assumption family.

Her leadership strengthened the spiritual identity of the Assumption congregation and continues to inspire generations of sisters serving the Church.

FATHER EMMANUEL D’ALZON

HISTORY OF OUR FOUND FATHER EMMANUEL D’ALZON

In the year 1620 [17th century] the grandparents of Fr. D’alzon the Daude’s D’alzon who were chief militaries were living at the CHATEAU DE LA COSTE [CASTLE OF LACOSTE]. During the war of 1670 their wealth were taken and burned. In brief they lost everything even their court of arms and their title of nobleness which is LES VICOMTES D’ALZON.

In 1727 the Daude D’Alzon received from King LOUIS the 15th in gratitude of the services rendered to the region population. The confirmation of their title of nobleness and their court of arms [LION] with their motto [DEODAT] e.g. given to God. The family chose a lion to mark the strength and nobleness of the family as they were good militaries and well known in the country. The Daude’s D’alzon was seen all times good Catholics and family was strong and large. It is where Henri Daude D’alzon was born [the father of our founder] During the French Revolution, the family lost again all the properties. In May 1806 Henri Daude D’alzon and Jeanne Clementine de Faventine celebrated the marriage at the church of St Peter at Vigar Jeanne Clementine at the age of 8 years was adopted by uncle clement and her aunt Josephine who were living at Condamine. She left there when she was 19 old years the day of their marriage. They received a s a gift Condamine which is the house Fr.D’Alzon was born in .A gift from the family of the mother of D’alzon [JEANNE CLEMENTINE]

HIS FAMILY On 30th August 1810 Emmanuel D’alzon was born in Condamine Vigar. The Vigan was a very important town because of the population of silk. The family was noble with deep faith as we have seen from the beginning. His birth made the whole family happy as it was four years of marriage without a child. The day of his birth Henri took the baby in his hands and offered it as 1st fruit saying loudly ā€˜ā€™blessed be the one who comes in the name of the Lord’’. These prophetic words have a meaning to the family motto. On 2nd Sept 1810 the baby was baptized and got a name Emmanuel Joseph Marie Maurice D’alzon to the church of St Peter Vigar. He was baptized by his uncle Chanoine Liron Dairolles. His God father John Marie De Favantine his uncle. D’alzon had three brothers and sisters: Augustine, Jule desprit,and Marie Francoise. At the age of six years 1816 the family shifted from Condanine to CHATEAU DE LAVAGNAC where children were educated by Fr. Bonne who was there private teacher and the mother continued helping them. ā€œLet us go where God is threatened in man and man is threatened as the image of God.ā€ — Fr Emmanuel d'Alzon

He stayed in the college for 12 years.

Characteristics of Fr. D’alzon[1810-1880]

He never wasted time.

He was a joyful man and generous.

He was a spiritual man.

He was a listening person.

He was sensible person.

He was prayerful person i.e. adoration.

He loved reading.

He loved play and good nature.

He liked liturgy i.e. Doing the holy mass alone.

 

HIS EDUCATION

In 13th October 1823 the father of Fr. D’alzon was appointed a member of parliament [MP].

The family left Chateau de Lavagnac to Paris on 13th October 1823.

At Paris Emmanuel D’alzon followed his lesson at the college of St Louis [1823-1824] and St Stanislaus in the year.

He received his 1st communion 1st July 1823 at the church of sulpice and he was confirmed 8th July 1823 in the same church by Arch Bishop Quelen.

After his bachelor studies in the minor university, he thought to join military services but his parents opposed.

The father told him through a message for he was not there,’’never forget your promise to God at this day of your baptism i.e.

He created you to know love and serve Him’’ all your life has to be consecrated to God but not for your personal love or love of the world.

When you find you go astray towards God you are supposed to do sacrifice.

He did laws at the University of Sorbonne for two years to defend the church of his time but he was not pleased with this.

He made himself a member of the association to defend his religion: A catholic faith founded by fr. Salinis therefore he become a member of religious conference.

It is there he met for the first time [FR FELICITE DELAMENAIS] who influenced him so much.

He went to the seminary of the Montpellier in 1832 then at Rome in 1834 he becomes a priest.

He was ordained acolyte on 20th December 1834

On 26th December 1834 a priest, He celebrated his first mass on 27th December 1834 at Crypte of St. Peter [Rome].
