Oblate Sisters of the Assumption

Who Are We

Founded in France in 1865 by Fr. Emmanuel D’Alzon, we are an international Catholic missionary congregation of sisters serving in over 25 countries across Africa, Europe, Asia, and America. Living as an active and contemplative family, we follow the example of Jesus by extending God's Kingdom through Christian unity, evangelization, education, healthcare, and loving service to the poor and marginalized. We fulfill this mission by balancing prayer, active apostolic service, and community life.

Our Prayer Life

Our service is rooted in a daily rhythm of shared and personal prayer. The Holy Eucharist is at the center of our lives, alongside the daily praying of Lauds and Vespers together as a community. Every day, we also spend one full hour in silent adoration before the Blessed Sacrament to give praise to God, renew our hearts, and find strength for our mission.We stay close to God by making time for quiet reflection, regular Reconciliation, the Rosary, and Bible study. To protect this inner peace, we maintain silence in our homes and step back for monthly reflection days and an annual silent retreat to refresh our faith.

Apostolic Life

As Oblates of the Assumption, our entire life is dedicated to serving God and bringing the Gospel to the modern world. We adapt to today's needs by using modern tools and media to share God's message, advocate for justice and peace, serve those on the margins, and work toward Christian unity. Whether young, old, or sick, every sister actively contributes to this mission by collaborating closely with priests, lay people, other religious groups, and especially our Assumptionist brothers to build up God’s Kingdom together. From the beginning of the foundation, our aim is to work for the Christian unity, evangelization, and engaging ourselves in charitable works in education, health care, and at the service of the most deprived.

Our Life of Consecration

Rooted in the grace of Baptism, our consecration is a journey of maturing in Faith, Hope, and Charity as we respond to God's love by following Christ's complete self-surrender. Through our public profession, we make a definitive gift of ourselves to God, integrating us into the mission of the Church and devoting us fully to the service of humanity. Our total belonging to Christ is expressed through fraternal love and visible external signs—the religious habit, ring, and cross. While specific apostolic needs may temporarily require secular dress, the inner reality and commitment of our consecration remain unchanged.

Our Community LIfe

Grounded in the divine love of the Holy Trinity, our fraternal life unites women of diverse ages and backgrounds into a single family, sustained by the Eucharist, shared prayer, and mutual trust. Building this community is a patient, ongoing work of faith characterized by a genuine family spirit of simplicity, honesty, and cordiality. Living as true sisters, we offer one another active listening, mutual forgiveness, and shared responsibility in the daily life of our houses.Our community life balances loving support for one another with dedicated times for spiritual reflection and apostolic discernment. We hold a special, tender care for our sick and elderly sisters, honoring their lifelong dedication while maintaining houses that are quiet and recollected, yet warm and welcoming to the world around us.

The Evangelical Counsels (Our Vows)

To keep our hearts completely open to God, we profess the vows of Obedience, Poverty, and Chastity within our community life. These commitments free us to focus entirely on prayer, fellowship, and serving others. Through Obedience, we seek God's will in daily life and freely dedicate ourselves to His service. Through Poverty, we live simply, share everything in common, and trust in God rather than material wealth. Through Chastity, we give our undivided hearts to Christ, allowing us to love and serve everyone freely.

Life of Oblation

To be an Oblate means uniting oneself fully to Jesus Christ through the total offering of one's life in service to the Church. In faith and love, we receive all things with gratitude, both joys and daily sacrifices, finding our true discipline in faithfully embracing daily prayer, hard work, poverty, and mutual forgiveness. Guided by Mary's courageous "Yes" from the Annunciation to the Cross, this path of self offering leads to genuine spiritual maturity, inner freedom, and the deep joy of the Risen Lord.
