About This Achievement

Initially a house was rented by the Assumptionists as Noviciate and Fr. Victor Ndakasi as Novice master. Later on Noviciate was shifted to Kizito house-Njiro, Arusha. The Sisters have shown interest to buy that house which was rented by the Assumptionists. They consulted the house owner and the agreement of the payment was made between them. The payment was done in three instalment, the first instalment (month of May, 1998) in the presence of Fr. Messo, Fr. Victor Ndakasi, Fr. Edgar (the late) and Sr. Jean Christine (late) and Sr. Alexandrine, the house owner and his two sons. The second instalment was done in June and the third on July, the same year). The payment and agreement was done and the house belongs to Oblate Sisters. On 16th July 1998 they had their first night in their own house.

Sister Claire Rabitz (General Superior of that time) arrived on July, 18th was the official open the first Oblate community in Tanzania, they had lunch with Assumptionists to welcome Mother General and in the evening Parish council came to pay a visit to Sisters. The following day Sr. Claire signed the first annals of Oblates in Arusha (which has helped me to make this work the way it is now). Sister Claire has done the great job of looking after her Sister’s needs; accompanied by Fr. Ndakasi, she bought the material for fencing the compound. On 22nd July she had a meeting with the Bishop Administrator and they had an agreement. On 25th July Sr. Claire and Community Sisters organised the room (close to present chapel) to be used as chapel for the Sisters. The room was well painted as place to meet God to replace the Chapel used by the Novices (room near the sitting room). Before that plan they were using the sitting room as the chapel.

On 27th of the same month they had the first meeting in their house in presence of Sr. Claire and in the evening Fr Messo Jean Marie blessed the Chapel together with Frs. Victor, Edgar (the late) and Brothers. Beginning of August Sister Claire left to Nairobi for her flight back to Paris-France.

To the end of September, the fence was done and the Sisters started to plant michongoma (local fence) and vegetables.

We had healthy vegetables but we didn’t know where to sell, some we used for themselves and some gave to people free of charge (Sr Lexandrine Mbusa Maghuta, Community of St Augustine, Arusha)
